Responsibility during contract period

In accordance to the standard visa procedure, the Hong Kong Immigration Dept. shall accept local Employers' and Foreign Domestic Helper's visa renewal and transfer application. Upon its approval of a contract renewal or transfer, a standard employment contract of 2 years will be approved but subject to a shorten working visa of not longer than 12 months, renewable for another 12 months, shall be granted but subjected to the Foreign Domestic Helper's departure from Hong Kong to his/her country of origin for a vacation, under the terms of the contract, during this extended period. However, in view of the latest COVID 19 pandemic, the Immigration Dept. has been accepting special requests for extension which ceases on the 30th April, 2023. Further extension without exiting request is hence not accepted thereafter. Further details, please visit the Hong Kong Government’s official announcement. If your Foreign Domestic Helper is eligible for such an extension, you may proceed as follows :

A. Employers and Foreign Domestic may apply online with Immigration Dept. for a further extension

Documents required:

  1. Employer's Explanation and Confirmation of Employment Letter
  2. Copies of Helper's Travel Documents (the copy should include the pages of the helper's personal particulars, the latest entry label and the latest visa extension label)
  3. ID 988A (it can be downloaded from here)
  4. Employer's Letter of Undertaking (it can be downloaded from here)

Upon the employer's completion of documents in Item 1 herein, you should save these documents as:

  1. Type of Image: JPG or TIF (CCITT-G4)
  2. File Size: Each file must not exceed 5Mb
  3. Colour: Black and White (for images without photos) or Colour (for images with photos)

Upon your completion of Item 2, you may upload these documents to this URL:

  2. Employers should also input:
    • FDH's latest visa no. and extension of stay's application number,
    • FDH's visa expiry date,
    • FDH's travel document's expiry date

Approval of Extension of Application

Upon Immigration Dept.'s receipt of your online application, the respective section will contact you by phone and/or by mail for a personal interview appointment to complete the approval process. A visa fee of HKD230 will need to be paid by the employer.

Foreign Domestic Helper's passport validity

Please also ensure that your Foreign Domestic Helper has a valid passport to cover the extended period of employment visa before apply for his/her visa extension.


B. Employers contemplating to arrange their Foreign Domestic Helper to return to his/her country of origin for a vacation

We strongly recommend employer NOT to arrange their helpers to return to their country of origin for vacation. However, if the Client and the Foreign Domestic Helper must proceed to depart from Hong Kong, we suggest that you must check with the Hong Kong Government as well as the destination country's entry and exit procedure before proceeding.

Furthermore, we suggest that you and your Foreign Domestic Helper undertake and sign the following forms prior to their departures.
